Project Name: The Policy Test Kitchen
Kate W Members and staff don't have basic metrics to track what's happening in their district and they don't know where to start. The Policy Test Kitchen helps offices discover what metrics matter most for their interests, pairs them with public datasets, and builds members dashboards. The PTK also lets the public know what metrics members track, so they know what information to provide them with. This can reduce dependence on lobbyists as a sole source of information.

Challenge 2: Facilitating Cross-Partisan Dialogue
Elaine L Project name: Policies Beyond Partisanship
  • Representatives are being judged for the slightest hint of cross-partisan action. People who might have common ground dismiss each other on a partisan basis. We need to open a non-partisan discussion space to allow freer exchange of ideas, including during the bill draft and revision process.

Nicholas C Project Name: Thumbprint

Challenge 3: Modernizing Congressional Participation

Jenny C SpeakToCongress: We want to engage constituents to weigh in on the lawmaking process, developing a tool helpful for them to send in text for laws and to comment as well as support the paragraphs relevant to the issues they care about. Staffers and journalists could use the tool, to find out the trending topics and new angles for the stories they want to publish.

Challenge 4: Closing the Representation & Trust Gaps
Michael A TL;DR Congress is a one-page personalized "report card" for voters to see how their elected official is serving them and provides an opportunity for elected officials to give explanations of their actions. It closes the trust gap between voters and their elected officials on the very issues that matter most to them. TL;DR Congress has a user-friendly and easy-to use dashboard showing the voting records of elected officials, as well as how their actions match up to the interests of voters on the issues. The platform also allows Congressional staffers to comment and tag issues related to the bills that members of Congress are currently voting on.

Robert F VoteMatrix Ballot and Matchmaking System
VoteMatrix is building a mobile and web app that will replace the state provided "Voter's Information Guide" and "Sample Ballot".  Users will be able to quickly research candidates and measures, and fill out their sample ballot at their convenience.  In coordination with the state, we will provide an option to "opt out" of paper mailings.  After the election, the representatives actions will be tracked and mapped to user principles via the user's TrustMatrix and PrincipleMatrix.  This means that voters will be notified when their representative is supporting something that goes against their principles and will have a real-time personalized approval rating for each representative, bill, and measure.  In addition, representatives can see how their constituents are polling on proposed legislation.

VoteMatrix is a mobile and web app that keeps political representatives in sync with constituents on specific political issues. It replaces traditional polling with a more dynamic stream of polling that provides finegrained information about how constituents feel about specific ballots before a vote even happens. It does this by centralizing information for voters about any candidate and how they are voting and allowing voters to share their input on specific legislation.

Chris C Mobilize Your Friends (working title)
When advocating for the issues they care about, most people bump up against the problemt that their Representatives in Congress don't hold meaingful sway. Our tool sorts Representatives by their influence on the issues and then connects users to facebook friends who are their constitutuents.
